Earlier this year, the Board of Bar Overseers voted to appoint Attorney Lisa Lippiello as a hearings officer. The BBO was established by the Supreme Judicial Court in 1974 as an independent administrative body to investigate and evaluate complaints against attorneys. Under SJC Rule 4:01, the term of a BBO hearings officer is for three years and can be renewed once.
Hearing committees, to which Attorney Lippiello is assigned, sit locally in panels of three as fact-finding tribunals in disciplinary proceedings brought against individual attorneys by the Office of Bar Counsel. The Committees hear testimony, take evidence, make adjudicatory rulings, and prepare written reports and recommendations for the BBO.
Committee members receive no monetary compensation and devote their time as a public service in the vital interest of preserving the integrity of the legal profession. Congratulations Lisa on this worthy honor.
